Online Job Hunting

Finding a job today is much different from the days of the past. In the old days, pre 1995. You searched through your local newspapers, pick out what you think you are qualified for and either fax them a resume or go to the employer and fill out a job application.

Today it is a different story. Everything is on the internet. That’s nice. But, have you ever tried to apply to several different jobs in one day. Some companies are great you submit a resume, you don’t know if it ever gets there and then you wait to here nothing. Its like shooting a gun in the dark, you don’t know if you hit anything or not. And then there are the companies that let you submit a resume and then they give you an online application that spans 2 or 3 long pages, asking for the exact same information that is contained in your resume. WOW a lot of work twice. And if you are really looking hard for a position you might need to fill out these ridiculous pages several times a day. It can be quite overwhelming. And very counter productive.

A word of advice from a job hunter to prospective employers. We are having a hard enough time finding jobs in todays economy so please,,, make it a little easier for us and less of a waste of your time and ours. Make it so a person can submit there resume. And once received, maybe an email saying you received it. And please no more online forms that ask the same questions that have already been submitted via resume. Thank You

The Search

Hi Everyone, This post is all about the job search. We all know it,, the economy is crap and jobs are hard to come by. It’s BRUTAL out there. I hope anyone that is reading this is not about to loose there home or anything else. I have applied for about 300 jobs in the last 2 months with very little response. It’s scary,,, really scary. I am a person that has had a lot of experience in a lot of different fields, and I have done a damn good job at all of them. I was forced to sell the last company I owned because of the declining economy. I had a choice,,,sell, or go bankrupt. I was lucky enough to find a buyer that saw the vision and the future that I saw. I am greatful to this person for seeing what I see for the company. I hope he does well.

Since I sold the company for a little less than what was owed on it, this leaves me in a strange position. I am asking myself, What the hell am I going to do now? I can build and run a company from the ground up. I have experience in everything. I am a JACK of All Trades in respect to the business building and ownership. But I am not an expert at any particular aspect. Or am I? I think the latter.

As I stated in the beginning of this BLOG I have applied for more than 300 jobs. I have interviewed for 3 of them. WOW, that’s not a good ratio. I think the problem is, so many people are out of work and applying for anything they may remotely be qualified for. I was at GoDaddy.com today and found out they get 1000 resumes a week for a single position. Wow, That makes the odds for a single applicant go down dramatically. It’s almost like winning the lottery.
